The 2021 Qingdao Forum on International Standardization was held on July 27-28 in Qingdao, a coastal city in East China’s Shandong province.
With the theme "Standards for Sustainable Development Goals", the event hosted by the Shandong Provincial People's Government and the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), consists of one conference, four sub-forums, and a series of activities. It was held both on site and online, attracting some 300 domestic and foreign participants.
The participants include leaders of SAMR , Standardization Administration of China (SAC), and other ministries and commissions, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, experts and scholars from well-known Chinese research institutes and universities, and top officials from international standards organizations like IEC, ISO and ITU.
Standard is the result of human civilization and advancement, and standardization is an effective way to promote sustainable development. To implement the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, SAMR enables standards to play a full role in inspiring the vigor of market entities, maintaining fair competition and building the new development pattern of “dual circulation“, thereby facilitating the sustainable development of economy and society, said Zhang Gong, Minister of SAMR in his address. Zhang Gong advocated that we should carry out the cooperation on standard technologies to facilitate industrial innovation and development, make joint efforts to establish the international standards system to support global green development, share the standard practices and achievements to create a healthy and safe future, reach a consensus on standard cooperation to facilitate the world’s interconnectivity. The effective standardization cooperation can help build the bridge of interconnectivity, cooperation and friendship, making a positive contribution to the global sustainable development.
In recent years, Shandong has vigorously implemented the standardization strategy and carried out the standardization comprehensive reform pilot programs, making remarkable results in this field, said Liu Jiayi, Secretary of the CPC Provincial Committee of Shandong.
In the new development stage, standardization is much more needed than ever to help apply the new development concepts and serve the new development pattern. We shall more proactively implement the standardization strategy, promote the innovation and development of standardization and deepen the cooperation on international standardization, thereby creating an open, innovative and cooperative situation to achieve win-win results. We shall also focus on high-quality development to vigorously promote the standardized industrial development, boost the standardization in urban-rural coordination, facilitate the standardization of ecological civilization to promote green transfomation of economy, promote the standardized public services to improve people’s livelihood, and boost the standardization of social governance to improve social harmonization and stability, stressed Liu.
Series of activities were held during the event, including the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation agreement between Shandong Provincial People’s Government and SAC.
The biennial forum, previously held in 2017 and in 2019, has established a high-end platform for having a dialogue on international standardization, generating cooperation opportunities among international, regional, and national standardization organizations, as well as promoting the development of standardization.
