After rounds of competition, 20 out of 200 teams from over 50 universities and colleges nationwide entered the final match of the International Standardization Youth Star Competition 2024 in Beijing on November 10.
The participants competed through 4 channels with different themes, including short-range communication, engineering construction, power batteries, and traditional Chinese medicine, which were respectively funded by Huawei, CATL, Beijing Zhongbiao Lyujian Engineering Design and Research Institute, and Hunan Sunsimiao Medicine Co., Ltd.
Focusing on different themes, students were invited to prepare project proposals and draft standards. Through on-site presentation and answering questions, 4 teams from China University of Political Science and Law, Harbin Institute of Technology, Qingdao University, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine won the champions of the 4 channels respectively.
The meeting was addressed by Zhang Xiaogang, former ISO President and initiator of the Outstanding Contribution Award Fund on International Standardization, Luo Fangping, President of China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS), Wang Decheng, President of China Academy of Machinery Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd. (CAM), Song Tongfei, Chief Engineer of Beijing Administration for Market Regulation, and Rachel Miller, ISO's manager on capacity building.
Through long-term practice, ISO has found that only when standards are adopted globally, can standards truly benefit mankind, stressed Zhang Xiaogang. The competition aims to help college students raise awareness of standards, learn knowledge, build capabilities, and improve standardized ideology. He hoped that the young generation can contribute to the economic growth and social development of China as well as the development of all humankind.
Directed by the ISO Central Secretariat and Standard Committee of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, the event was jointly hosted by the Outstanding Contribution Award Fund on International Standardization, CNIS, Standardization Research Institute of CAM, and Beijing Administration for Market Regulation.
