
The ISO Technical Management Board (ISO/TMB) has recently approved the establishment of a new subcommittee ISO/TC 107/SC 10, Chemical vapour deposition coatings, with China holding the secretariat.
Chemical vapour deposition (CVD) coating is a technology that “grows” high-performance thin films on material surfaces. Through chemical reactions of gaseous precursors, it forms a dense, firmly adherent functional coating on component surfaces, imparting outstanding properties such as high hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, high-temperature tolerance, and high optical transmittance. Leveraging these characteristics, CVD coatings can be applied in critical sectors, including aerospace, high-end equipment manufacturing, semiconductors, optoelectronics and displays, automotive manufacturing, and energy and chemicals, making it a core technology for ensuring the performance and reliability of key components.
The subcommittee will focus on the systematic development of international standards, including terminology and definitions, process specifications, test methods, quality evaluation, and environmental safety aspects of CVD coatings. China will vigorously build an international cooperation platform, and pool the expertise of experts from around the world, providing robust support for standardizing the performance of CVD coating products globally, safeguarding the service safety of critical components, and promoting the green and low-carbon development of related industries.
