The 4th China-South Asia Standardization Cooperation Working Conference was held on July 8 in the Chengdu High-tech Industrial Development Zone, co-hosted by the Chengdu Administration for Market Regulation and the Chengdu High-tech Industrial Development Zone Administrative Committee. Nearly 200 participants gathered in Chengdu, including high-level officials from standardization bodies of South Asian countries such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Malpes, representatives from IEC, leading standardization experts and representatives from the industry at home and abroad.
Under the theme “Standards Innovation Drives Industry Development, Standards Openness Promotes Economic and Trade Circulation,” the conference built a full-chain practical channel for China-South Asia standardization cooperation, providing new momentum for deepening regional economic and trade ties and advancing the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The meeting noted that Chengdu will fully leverage its geographical advantage of connecting Southwest China and radiating into South Asia, positioning itself as a pioneer for China-South Asia standards connectivity. The meeting further put forward three initiatives: first, improve the regular cooperation mechanism; second, expand cooperation in key areas such as new energy and digital economy; third, deepen the exchange and mutual learning of standardization professionals, to promote shared regional prosperity through high-standard connectivity.
The 4th China-South Asia Standardization Cooperation Working Conference (Chengdu) Initiative was officially unveiled. Participants reached significant consensus on leveraging standards to serve economic and trade circulation, empower industrial development, and underpin sustainable development.
More fruitful achievements were made at the conference, including one cooperation agreement, three letters of intent for cooperation, speeches made by authoritative experts, bilateral meetings on standardization cooperation, and specific activities for industry negotiations.
